What is the most important factor when booking a venue for a Christmas party?

Thames Venues - Westminster to Waterloo

(menu)

Altitude London
The wow factor of this venue is its incredible view of London. Based in the tallest riverside building on the Thames, the location offers event venues on five floors and caters for parties of five right up to 1,200.
Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, SW1P 4QP, tel: 0845 500 2929, BR:-  FR:14  M:400  D:500  R:1,200

Terrace at the Palace of Westminster
It doesn’t get grander than a party in the marquee on the Palace of Westminster’s riverside terrace. Previously, you’d need a tame MP or peer to sponsor an event here, but apparently change is afoot.
Westminster, SW1A 0AA, tel 0870 906 3773, BR:-  FR:1  M:-  D:60  R:120

London Marriott Hotel County Hall
It’s all about the location… right by the London Eye and Big Ben. There are 11 function rooms and The Restaurant serves up British classics paired with (pricey) European wines for up to 120 if taken exclusively.
Westminster Bridge Road, SE1 7PB, tel: 020 7928 5200, BR:200  FR:13  M:80  D:120  R:100

London Eye - 1106_london_eye_(2).jpgThe London Eye
It’s become an icon that defines the capital’s skyline, but it’s also a venue for hire. You can book one or all of the 25-capacity viewing capsules with wine or Champagne receptions for £30pp. The occasion can be combined with a river cruise, or an event for up to 800 guests in the Flight Zone.
Westminster Bridge Road, London, SE1 7PB, tel: 0871 222 4002, squaremeal.co.uk/londoneye, BR:-  FR:2  M:-  D:-  R:800

Tattershall Castle
Perhaps more low-key than other options in the area, this boat-cum-bar moored on the Thames still offers great views on a riverside setting. You can fit between 25 and 250 guests in one of its four rooms.
Victoria Embankment, Whitehall, SW1A 2HR, tel: 020 7839 6548, BR:-  FR:3  M:20  D:150  R:250

TS Queen Mary
This iconic 1930s steamer has long been a fixture on Victoria Embankment. It has various meeting spaces for groups from 30 to 160, and a wedding licence.
Victoria Embankment, WC2R 2PP, tel: 020 7240 9404, BR:-  FR:2  M:100  D:150  R:500
RS Hispaniola - 1106_rs_hispanola_02.jpg

RS Hispaniola
Think trad boat, but with a latin twist. The biggest function room can fit 150 either for a dinner, dance, or stand-up reception and the ship can be hired for exclusive use with buffets, afternoon teas and lunch catering on offer.
Victoria Embankment, WC2N 5DJ, tel: 020 7839 3011, BR:-  FR:3  M:130  D:150  R:150

Royal Festival Hall
The Hall’s smaller St Paul’s and Weston roof pavilions benefit from floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies so you can breathe in the river air while soaking up views of St Paul’s Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament and The London Eye.
Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XX, tel: 020 7921 0936  BR:-  FR:13  M:30  D:400  R:800

Skylon
The Skylon’s your limit in the Royal Festival Hall’s award-winning restaurant, which caters for just about any number up to 500, be it private dinning for 30 or a cocktail-and-canapé reception.
Belvedere Road, South Bank SE1 8XX, tel: 020 7654 7800. BR:-  FR:3  M:-  D:200 R: 500
