With a prime position on the banks of the Thames in Docklands, a brisk walk or quick cab ride from Canary Wharf, The Gun is a stunning Grade II-listed pub and restaurant. Carefully restored to its former glory, it has some beautiful spaces available to hire for events.
On our recent visit, the River Room stood out because of its stately feel and impressive views across the Thames, straight to the O2 (which sadly, the picture doesn’t illustrate very well, so just take our word for it!). It has impressive artwork on the walls – all military-themed – as well as antique furniture, including a beautiful dining table and chairs to seat 14 people for a meeting or dinner. Guests can also gaze out at the river through a telescope.
Well worth a visit just for its food (think generous portions of wild game terrine with pickled baby beetroot, ahead of pork belly with celeriac purée, cider and calvados jus), The Gun is also famous for its large outside space which is a major attraction come summer. The elegant riverside terrace with its huge parasols is great for casual dining, while A Grelha, an alfresco bar and restaurant on the river’s edge right next to the building, can be hired for summer parties for up to 200 people.
