(menu)

Champagne lunch - Rest._Sauterelle-Pink_Champagne_glasses.jpgShow your mum she’s worth her weight in gold this year, by treating her to a lazy brunch, gourmet set lunch or decadent afternoon tea. Square Meal has chosen its three favourite options from each in order to help you make your mum feel special this weekend. Don’t forget to book in advance, and remember to check out the Mother’s Day offers on our special offers page for more ideas.

Girlie brunch

The Modern Pantry

This Clerkenwell café is light, airy, and possesses a beautiful terrace for sunny days. Enjoy French pastries or homemade granola with a mug of the house hot chocolate, or indulge in the sugar-cured New Caledonian prawn omelette.

The Riding House Cafe (pictured, left)

A study in rough-and-ready precision, this all-day café is perfect for mums who like to pick and choose from delicious nibbles and natter over a glass or two of wine. What's more, it's a stone's throw from Oxford Circus, in case she wants to hit the shops afterwards.

The Wolseley

This ornate and stately hotel does breakfast the grown-up way. Within its much-loved walls, your mum can choose anything her heart desires, from kippers or buttered crumpets to fruit salad or eggs any style.

Gourmet set lunch

Corrigan’s Mayfair

Richard Corrigan’s set lunch is great value at three courses for £27. The staff’s main concern is to make customers feel as special as possible, so they’re sure to make as much fuss of your mum as you will.

This Parisian chef – and mother-of-two herself – serves top-quality, flavour-packed dishes in comfortable and luxurious surroundings. Set lunches start from £35 for three courses.

Le Gavroche

Michel Roux Jr knows a thing or two about service, and his Mayfair big-hitter still offers one of the most comprehensive and good-value lunch deals in London (£52 for three courses, including half a bottle of wine, water, amuse-bouches, coffee and petits fours). Squeeze in a booking in honour of your mum - she might even meet 'that man off the telly'.

Dainty afternoon tea

Bob Bob Ricard

Colourful, kitsch and lots of fun, Bob Bob Ricard boasts comfortable booths and a button on every table to summon Champagne. The irresistibly cute afternoon tea starts at £23.50, or £27 if you add a glass of homemade pink lemonade.

Fortnum & Mason

Ascend to the fourth floor of this venerable temple to gourmet food for afternoon tea at the newly launched Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon (formerly the sprawling St James’s restaurant). If it's good enough for the Queen, Camilla and Kate (who visited for tea together), it's good enough for you and your mum.

The Palm Court

Oozing the 1920s’ glamour of the flapper-girl era, The Palm Court in The Park Lane Hotel, has won awards for its long-standing afternoon tea, which is taken to the soothing sound of a harpist.
