Isle of Wight Festival review

Braving the mud on the Isle of Wight

IOW Festival SatMainIOWAMS6.jpg

The event: Isle of Wight festival 2012.

The venue: Seaclose Park, Newport, Isle of Wight.

The talking point: the mud, the music, the mayhem.

Getting there: We drove from London, caught a ferry (by foot) from Southampton and took a pleasant water taxi to the camp.

The food: There were hundreds of options, but we went with stone-baked pizzas, chorizo sandwiches, Thai curry, fish and chips, fresh fajitas and a fantastic Jamaican goat curry.

The drink: Carling, Strongbow and Relentless.

We loved: Pearl Jam in the rain and the after party in The Carling Refresh Rooms tent. The posh showers were a delight too.

What we didn’t love: watching England get knocked out on the big screen.

The entertainment: headline acts included Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Pearl Jam (the performance of the festival) and The Boss – Bruce Springsteen. Other standout acts included Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Biffy Clyro and Elbow. Oh, and we’d better mention The Darkness too – awesome.
