What is the most important factor when booking a venue for a Christmas party?

Tobacco Dock hosted the third annual ISES industry showcase on Tuesday 4 December.

THE EVENT: Mistletoe, the event industry’s annual Christmas event organised by ISES UK (International Special Events Society), MPI (Meeting Professionals International) and SiTE (Society of Incentive and Travel Executives), along with supporters BVEP (The Business Visits & Events Partnership) and Eventia.

THE VENUE: one of east London’s latest event space Tobacco Dock

THE FOOD: catering was provided by The Recipe, who served up bowl-food choices of seared fillet of beef, chicken katsu curry or gorgonzola and walnut gnocchi. Canapés included goat’s cheese on crostini, mozzarella and sundried tomato arancini and mini tuna steak burgers. Suppliers also showed off their wares, with gourmet popcorn by Joe & Seph and ice cream from Iced Angels.

TO DRINK: red and white wine were in full flow, with bottled beers available too. There was also a whisky tasting with Tastour, for those who fancied trying something a little stronger.

WE LOVED: wandering around and experiencing what the suppliers had to offer. There was entertainment from Urban Soul Orchestra’s string quartet and fire-breathing circus performer Yusura, through to the digital graffiti walls created by Luma. Guests could also create their own scent with The Perfume Studio, test green-screen photography with PJL Productions or have their photo taken with the Las Vegas showgirls.

THE TALKING POINT: the impressive choice of venue. Tobacco Dock’s Victorian setting suited the night’s festive atmosphere, while its abundance of space lent itself well to the whole event: from the centre stage where acts performed and speeches were made, to the numerous alcoves where suppliers could showcase their services.

ON THE GUEST LIST: Over 350 event professionals, including venue managers, event organisers and suppliers, as well as leading associations, industry members and journalists.

THE SUPPLIERS: Tobacco Dock, The Recipe, Well Dressed Tables, Spaceworks, Off to Work, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Sound By Design, Hawthorn, Urban Soul Orchestra, Luma, Crewsaders, The Hire Business, Elegant Entertainment, Ice Angels, Tastour, Pufferfish, Yusura, The Perfume Studio, It’s The Real Santa, Indigo Plum, Joe and Seph's, PJL Productions, The Ice Box, Minty Cloud and SLR.
