We stayed at Stoke Place the night before last year’s Boodles Challenge and although it was a real treat to wake up so close to the tournament, we did wish we could have lingered to enjoy this beautiful property for longer. The entire hotel has recently been refurbished and the resulting look is a gorgeous mix of old and new, where striking original features blend seamlessly with modern furnishings and a fresh colour scheme.
The Gloucester Suite wasn’t a huge space but it had some great features, including a separate room – complete with garden views – for the free-standing roll-top bath. Next door to this was a generous shower room, equipped with his-and-her sinks and cool Aveda toiletries. Dominated by a sleek four-poster bed and done out in dark wood, leather and earthy colours, with a wall-mounted flat-screen TV, the bedroom had quite a masculine feel, though its fluffy pillows, excellent lighting and impressive attention to detail added universal appeal. We particularly enjoyed the well-stocked complimentary drinks tray, which featured lemonade as well as tea, coffee and bottled water. This did infringe on precious desk space, though.
