The picture says it all. The Feature Room at Drakes Hotel is about the windows – all three of them, stretching from floor to ceiling, with a panoramic view sweeping from east to west with only sea and sky between.
The sun streams into the room throughout the day, but the vista is just as romantic in the evening, when the pier lights up. Even in less favourable climes, the beach takes on a wintery windswept charm. And all of this can be observed from the bubbly comfort of the two-person bath tub.
Once the shutters have been closed, attention turns to the room itself, a sophisticated suite that couldn’t be further from the ‘rhapsody in chintz’ interiors of a classic seaside guesthouse. The difference is in the detail: the beds are Vi-Spring (like the Queen’s), the duvet duck and goose down, the floors recycled bamboo (very Brighton) and toiletries are by The White Company. Female guests will also appreciate a proper Vidal Sassoon hairdryer rather than the usual wheezing wall-mounted affair.
