The BMW Square Meal Award is presented every six months to the most impressive new restaurant
in the capital. The country may still be feeling the aftershocks of the crunch, but this season has seen a healthy clutch of newcomers bidding for stardom.
.
The Galvin brother’s first foray into the City (Galvin La Chapelle) made everyone sit up and take notice,
and we were delighted by Bruno Loubet’s return to the capital; Atul Kochhar’s
dressed-down, new-wave Colony and Venetian tapas specialist Polpo also impressed.
.
But our vote finally went to the Dean Street Townhouse – a sophisticated and urbane
masterstroke from Richard Caring and Nick Jones of Caprice Holdings and Soho House Group. Its clubby vibes, dashing sense of style and food that impresses by virtue of its unadorned
simplicity have made it a red-hot addition to the Theatreland scene.
.
Our congratulations go to Richard Caring, Nick Jones and all concerned with this remarkable new venture.
And we thank BMW for its ongoing sponsorship of this award, particularly as its brand is synonymous with class, innovation, reliability and value – precisely the qualities of our latest winner.
