BMW Square Meal Award for Best UK Restaurant

(menu)

L'Enclume_2010_-_l'enclume_-_garden_summer_morning_WEB.jpgEvery summer, we and our 25 regional reviewers look beyond the M25 in our search for the best restaurant outside London. It proves a daunting task, which is why this year, more than usual, we would like to thank you, our readers, for giving us a helping hand. Besides the many reader comments that have been contributed to the restaurant pages of our website, for the first time readers took part in an online survey, voting for their favourite restaurant and leaving specific feedback, helping us to settle on a winner. The decision, though, was far from easy. There was plenty of support for the old guard, such as Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons and Waterside Inn. Last year’s winner, Whatley Manor, and Bray’s ever-popular Fat Duck were also strong contenders, while Nathan Outlaw made the running with his impressive seafood restaurant. But one restaurant outshone them all: L’Enclume. With its bucolic Lake District setting, pared-back interiors and inventive modern cuisine, it has become one of the most popular foodie destinations in the country and thoroughly deserves this year’s top spot.

We thank BMW for its ongoing sponsorship of this award, particularly as its brand values of class, innovation, reliability and value are precisely the qualities of our latest winner.
