All The Best - Tara Palmer-Tomkinson

(menu)

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, the It-girl turned novelist, on her favourite venues, restaurants, hotels and parties (and she’s been to a few…)

TPTAlexanderJames_138amended.jpgBEST BASH
David Frost’s garden party in Carlyle Square. It’s like being in Madame Tussauds except everyone is real. I love being outside and, apart from the barrage of policeman, press and paparazzi as you enter, the party itself is completely private. I usually lose my shoes as I wander around in bare feet.

BEST BUZZ
Nothing could top winning Fame Academy. Having been working so hard and living in County Hall for two weeks, it was amazing to go from being the outsider to picking up the trophy.

BEST BED
This has to be at my villa in Bali, (officially the Grand Cliff-front Residence at Karma Kandara, but I have renamed it ‘Drama KanTara’). The beds are four-poster, with Egyptian cotton sheets and muslin all around. My best hotel bed is in the penthouse at the Metropolitan Hotel on Park Lane. It is like going to sleep in a big cloud of Frette Egyptian cotton sheets.

BEST VENUE
The Prince of Wales’ surprise 60th for my mother was in The Orchid room at Highgrove – this has to be the best venue. The party had been themed so it was full of things my mother loves. There were snowy mountains and St Bernard dogs – it was a winter wonderland.

BEST BITES
My favourite restaurant is The Club at The Ivy. I like the eggs Benedict and calf’s liver and I’m addicted to the Bloody Marys.

BEST DRINK
A Bull Shot served in the Chesa Grischuna in Klosters. It’s like a Bloody Mary but they replace the tomato juice with beef consommé. It sounds disgusting, but tastes delicious and is great for hangovers.

BEST HOSPITALITY
Going to the Grand Prix at Silverstone with my then boyfriend, but now very good friend, Eduardo Teodorani-Fabbri, whose family own Ferrari. The excitement, buzz, adrenaline, chatting to Bernie Ecclestone in his trailer – and on top of that just feeling the testosterone – made it a knuckle-biting day.

BEST BEATS
Philip Glass’s The Orphée Suite, which love to play on the piano. It makes for great background music at an event.

BEST BAG
The goodie bags at Elton John’s parties are second to none. I think I even had a car in one 10 years ago! Diamonds, La Perla, you name it… they are super-heavy and super-pricey and super-stylish.

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson shot to fame in the 1990s, when she wrote a social diary for The Sunday Times. After winning a battle  with cocaine addiction, in 2002 Tara won many admirers with her gutsy stint on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! (she was runner up to Tony Blackburn), before going on to win BBC’s Fame Academy for Comic Relief in 2007. An accomplished pianist (she practises for 90 minutes each day), she has performed at the Royal Albert Hall and earlier this year turned her attention to literature. Her first novel, Inheritance (Macmillan, £7.99), is on sale now.
