Alfresco Attractions This Summer

Only time will tell if we get that barbecue summer we were, once again, promised. Whatever happens, there’s bound to be enough hot days to enjoy this year, so if the sun is shining and you want to head out to a restaurant terrace but don’t know where to go, either take a look at our best alfresco list, or check out some of these handpicked alfresco goings-on:

Petersham Nurseries Cafe - Petersham_Nurseries_Cafe.jpgPetersham Nurseries Café: Skye Gygnell’s bucolic restaurant (pictured left), normally only open over lunch, is hosting a series of themed supper clubs. Held under the stars – weather permitting – it’ll be an exclusive chance to enjoy Gygnell’s seasonal cuisine in a summery, romantic setting.

Le Bouchon Bordelais: The Smithfield French restaurant has opened its terrace for the summer, sporting a special La Fête Alsacienne menu. Share a suckling pig with friends and knock back a litre-sized stein of beer.

The Montague on the Gardens: The picturesque Terrace Bar at the boutique four-star Bloomsbury hotel, which overlooks the secluded private gardens of the Bedford estate, is running a barbecue every day through summer, weather permitting.

A Grelha at the Gun: Enjoy a special Portugese barbecue menu at the Docklands' pub's Thameside summer terrace, boasting views of the O2 Arena across the water.

The Avalon: Another pub putting on a special outside menu, expect dishes such as Middlewhite spit roast pork, and whole sea bream with fennel, radish and lime salad courtesy of the two barbecues and rotisserie that will doubtless be working overtime Thursday-Sunday once the sun starts shining.

Gaucho Hampstead: The Hampstead branch of the popular Argentinean steak chain is running a all-you-can-eat barbecue every Wednesday evening and Sunday lunch this summer. £35 will give you access to an unlimited buffet of meat, salad and ice-cream.

Inn the Park: Oliver Peyton's St. James' Park restaurant is running a barbecue every Saturday and Sunday through the summer. Expect dishes such as new season Barnsley lamb chop with a mint, Ticklemore and fennel salad, and Longhorn Rib Eye steak on the bone for two to share, served with Bearnaise sauce.

Momo: Mourad Mazouz's Mayfair Moroccan is running a mezze menu through the summer on its secluded terrace, which is suitably kitted out in north-African-style decor.
