Judge Chambord cocktails in top London bars

This September, bartenders in some of the capital’s top drinking hotspots will be vying to serve the finest Chambord cocktail creations – and they want you to judge their efforts.

The eight bars participating in the competition will be offering the best Chambord cocktails alongside the liqueur’s new signature serve – Chambord Gl’amour (pictured, above) – but, in the end, you, the customer, will decide who has best expressed Chambord’s unique mix of decadence and sophistication.

Below are the bars that will be serving fantastic Chambord cocktails. Register as one of the 300 judges and you will receive a Chambord passport that will enable you to sample two free cocktails (one Gl'amour and one bespoke serve for you and a guest to sample) at each of the bars between 1-30 September (details below).

London Cocktail Club, Covent Garden

The third venture from maverick mixologist JJ Goodman (of BBC’s The Restaurant fame), this full-on venue for post-work extroverts is rightly lauded for its supremely creative drinks selection.

London Cocktail Club, Fitzrovia

This Goodge Street venue’s bijou basement bar is hugely popular with devotees of its glamorously moody interior and inventive approach to mixing great drinks – from classic favourites to pushing-the-envelope gastro-mixology.

Covent Garden Cocktail Club

The original London Cocktail Club, this basement off Leicester Square, epitomises understated elegance, showcasing a fine selection of drinks that nod to the heritage of mixology, but also embrace the creations of today’s bartender generation.

Crazy Bear, Fitzrovia

Crazy Bear's subterranean bar mixes weird and wonderful interiors with a glitzy cocktail menu whose creations are laced with old-world glamour.

Le Salon Bar de Joël Robuchon, Covent Garden

Many of the plaudits go to the two-Michelin-starred L’Atelier restaurant at this venue off Shaftesbury Avenue, but don’t ignore the exemplary bar, which mingles timeless classics with unique modern creations.

The Long Bar at The Sanderson, Fitzrovia

This glamorous double-sided onyx bar is a staple of the red-carpet scene, attracting models, premiership footballers and other well-known faces. Drinks of consistent quality and generous bar snacks completes the picture.

The Lucky Pig, Bloomsbury

Check out the relaxed sense of decadent élan at this art nouveau-accented joint in Bloomsbury – all curtained booths and divinely glamorous decor. If the drinks offer period appeal, the attention to detail and sheer quality on show are thoroughly up to date.

Oskar’s Bar at Dabbous, Fitzrovia

An instant hit with drinks fashionistas, courtesy of bar legend Oskar Kinberg, this basement addition to that restaurant offers an industrial-bunker buzz that oozes style and sophistication.

About Chambord

Think back to the quintessential age of decadence and glamour, when French kings lived lives of unparalleled luxury and sophistication. Inspired by the elegant days of pre-revolutionary France comes Chambord, the unique black-raspberry liqueur embodying seduction and charm.

Chambord underpins its desirability and versatile presence in the finest style bars of today with a story that echoes through the centuries. It was inspired by a black-raspberry liqueur produced in the Loire Valley in the late 17th century, said to have been enjoyed by King Louis XIV while on a hunting trip to Château Chambord.

Now, this once-favourite drink of French royalty has found new expression in modern-day Chambord, a liqueur crafted from all-natural ingredients in a state-of-the-art facility on the grounds of La Sistière, a château in Cour Cheverny, in the heart of France’s Loire Valley. Here, the master blender oversees a painstaking process of infusion, extraction, marrying and blending that transforms fresh raspberries and blackberries into a liquid byword for decadence and sumptuous luxury.

The fruit is infused not once but twice in French spirit, in a process that lasts six weeks, ensuring that every last nuance of flavour is extracted. Only then are the berries delicately pressed to capture all the natural juices and sugars, creating an infusion base that can live up to Chambord’s exacting standards.

And this is where the master blender calls on all of his savoir-faire, mingling the infusion with extracts of black raspberries, blackcurrants and red raspberries, before marrying the result with a secret recipe of Cognac, Madagascan vanilla and fragrant herbs to create a liqueur of exceptional character.

It’s a gloriously seductive liquid, boasting a complex black-raspberry flavour that is uniquely versatile, giving equal pleasure whether consumed in Champagne, asthe key component of a long drink or– crucially – as an ingredient in a mouth-watering array of cocktails.

But, much more than that, Chambord encapsulates a lifestyle that finds free expression in luxury, sophistication and elegance – an unapologetically decadent joie de vivre and vivacity that is as at home in today’s style bars as it was in the halcyon days of the French royal court.
