Despite attracting some impressive players to the County Ground, Somerset have struggled to attain the success they crave. Ian "Beefy" Botham - possibly England's finest all-rounder of the modern game - played for the county for more than decade while making his name in the international game. West Indies pair, bowler Joel "Big Bird" Garner and legendary batsmen Viv Richards, brought a Caribbean flavour to Somerset, while, more recently, Australia's Ricky Ponting captained the side. Somerset play at Bath as well as at their 6,500-capacity HQ in Taunton.
