Everton have often been overshadowed by rivals Liverpool - based just down the road across Stanley Park - but, dubbed "the People's Club", their fans often claim to be the true heart of Merseyside. The Toffees, thought to be so called after a toffee shop selling Everton mints close to their Goodison Park stadium, have spent most of their history in the top tier of English football. And the club that made a legend of striker Dixie Dean and, more recently, nurtured Wayne Rooney to become an icon of the modern game, are hoping to go on to even greater things as they look for a new home in Liverpool.
