Rovers were heading towards the basement of the football league until Blackburn industrialist Jack Walker sold his steel firm and pumped money into the Lancashire club in the early 1990s. The club were a founder member of the football league in 1888 and enjoyed early success, winning five FA Cups in the late 19th century. But that was a distant memory for their fans until Walker reinvigorated the club, taking them from ailing minnow to a team to challenge their bigger north-west rivals. He transformed Ewood Park into the modern all-seater stadium it is today and brought in big-name players such as Alan Shearer, who lead the team to win the Premier League in 1995. Walker died in 2000 but his legacy lives on at Rovers.
