Niall Keating opened Lunar Restaurant in 2021 as his first venture after cutting his teeth in an array of world renowned restaurants such as Kong Hans Kælder in Copenhagen, Benu in San Francisco and Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottingham. He also possesses a number of accolades, including winning ‘Champion of Champions’ during the BBC's Great British Menu 2020. But perhaps the most impressive of them all is that Niall became the youngest British chef to be awarded two Michelin stars back in 2019 when running the kitchen at The Dining Room at Whatley Manor Hotel in Wiltshire.
Now, Niall has brought forward the same high standards and passion for quality to Lunar, to create an ever changing menu that focuses around a sustainable approach with less food miles, and seasonal produce. Guests can choose from the three course a la carte menu with options like caramelised onion tart, goats cheese and balsamic starter, crispy pork belly, braised red cabbage and pomme pureé mains and chocolate crémeux, honeycomb, cherry sorbet for dessert.
Then for those looking to get the full experience, guests can order The Lunar Experience menu, which is a 12 course tasting menu that constantly changes to adapt to seasonal produce and ingredients that are available locally. Whilst the menu isn’t published online due to it changing from week to week, you can expect to find dishes like orkney scallop with dill pickle and mussel veloute or white miso tofu with strawberry and caramelised white chocolate.
For parties and events, there are plenty of areas available for hire, such as the Chef's Table, set back from the main restaurant to provide a secluded space for those who are looking for a more private affair. Comprising of a 4 metre long concrete table and a view of the kitchen, there is space for twelve guests to dine on either menu of their choice, with a minimum spend applying.
Aside from this, there is also The Bubble Room, The Lunar Bar, and The Parlour, the latter of which can host up to 32 guests. To end the night, or as a drinks only event, The Botanic Garden can also be hired. This can be found through a secret door which leads you to a speakeasy style cocktail lounge inspired by Erasmus Darwin and his infamous book, and can accommodate up to 20 guests.
