Nestled in the corner of Covent Garden’s famous piazza is a homage to an iconic part of city life – the London Transport Museum. With a glass exterior, interactive displays and brightly lit exhibitions, it stands out amongst the area's historic architecture making it a quirky venue for your next event.
Though there are many events spaces within the museum, Canteen sits at the front of the building and is flooded with natural light, boasting views out over the hustle and bustle of the square. With olive green, deep teal and rust red tones, this space definitely has a retro feel, which makes all the more sense when you discover that it's named after the static canteens which catered for transport workers back in the 1940s and 1950s. In fact, the interiors are a celebration of the changing design of London transport and the journey it has been on (pun intended). In the space you'll find nods to its evolution with moquette upholstery, maps and real tiles from the underground.
From the light fittings that never made it to Embankment station to the wooden benches found in the basement of Wembley Park, there are plenty of talking points to keep your guests entertained. Canteen has a capacity of 50 seated or 60 standing, with morning hire running from 7.30am until 9.30am, and evening hire starting at 6pm until 1am. With an intimate feel and characterful décor, it’s the perfect place for a drinks reception, networking event or office party. Catering is available in the space when organised through one of the London Transport Museum’s preferred suppliers, such as Benugo Events, who focus on ethical and sustainable produce.
