Coffee, cocktails, Creole and Cuban are on offer at this new space in Charterhouse Street. This is the first offshoot of the original Cubana café/bar in Waterloo and – given that it has been open for nearly twenty years – we reckon that they know what they’re doing. The rich aroma of coffee (sustainably farmed in the Cuban mountains and roasted in their state-of-the-art machine) pervades the space in the morning, along with freshly baked bread. Come lunchtime and through the afternoon and evening, the Cuban/Creole food combo gradually takes over. Start with prawn and mango skewers, marinated in guava, ginger, honey and lime, then move on to slow-roasted pork with black beans, chilli rice and plantain. The Mojitos are so moreish, we recommend waiting till sundown to sample.
