SquareMeal Review of Cup Tea Lounge

Glasgow’s much-loved Cup Tea Lounge continues to run through the day serving cakes, teas and sweet delights in the breath-taking 19th-century surrounds of De Quincey House with its original wall tiles and portraits of Queen Victoria. The regular menu delivers brunch classics such as hot waffles, French toast and griddled pancakes, while lunch is a modest line-up of club sandwiches, wraps, salads, hot bakes and toasties – try the haggis with onion marmalade or feta, peach and chilli jam. However, the real stars of the show are in the patisserie department – especially a splendid choice of cupcakes taking everything from pink vanilla or ‘cherry jubilee’ to peanut butter and jelly. Drinks include artisan coffees, hot chocolate, soft drinks and wines, but don’t miss the signature collection of hand-blended loose-leaf teas such as fragile silver needle and aromatic royal oolong.
