Provenance doesn’t get much sharper than naming the trawlers and skippers who land your fish, but then Green’s is only a splash away from the fish quay. Nowhere in Whitby can touch this place for dressed-up seafood, and the owners have maintained standards here for well over a decade. There’s always plenty to choose from, whether you eat in the ground-floor bistro or upstairs in the more formal dining room. Salt-and-pepper squid, fish pie, bouillabaisse and moules-frites are fixtures, while the catch of the day goes up on the blackboard – so look out for the likes of Whitby langoustines with garlic and white wine, or maybe turbot with salsa verde. For a total shellfish blow-out, why not book ahead for a multi-course tasting menu and stay over in one of the owners’ boutique apartments in the town.
