Members of the Stornaiuolo family ran the much-loved Patio in Edinburgh’s New Town for many years before relocating to these more contemporary premises in the culinary desert of Morningside Road.
Youngster Gino now runs the place, which is named in honour of his two ‘nonnas’ (their photos adorn the walls of the dining room); otherwise it’s still a family affair, with father manning the
kitchen and mother overseeing a crew of long-serving waiters. The result is an old-school local trattoria that gets regularly stowed out with loyal regulars eager to sample classics such as salad
caprese, thin-crust pizzas, veal milanese and char-grilled chicken with pea risotto – although seafood and pasta are Papa Stornaiuolo’s twin passions. Don’t miss the crab linguine or the
magnificent spaghetti with prawns, and remember to save room for his legendary tiramisu.
