THE FOX CLOSED PERMANENTLY IN DECEMBER 2018
Cooling craft beers are not the least of The Fox’s attractions: on a balmy evening, the semi-covered roof terrace outside this stripped-back Victorian corner house is a lively lair. A regularly rotated range of quality ales includes pulls from Kernel, Camden and London Fields’ Hackney Hopster, plus strong Scottish brews, Americans and continentals – including a trio from our Czech mates at Bernard Brewery, and Dutch heavyweight De Molen’s Pijl & Boog (at a whopping 10.8% abv). Locally sourced, man-appeal scran includes Sunday roasts, steak and ale pie, fish dishes, slow-cooked pork belly, big burgers with triple-cooked chips or gammon with free-range eggs and mash – all backed by a sensibly short wine list that has Galician house red and white for around £12. Bar bites, platters and veggie options are also offered, and tables are invariably at a premium.
