Following the success of the reborn Willow Tea Rooms on Sauchiehall Street, owner Anne Mulhern created this new venue right next door to its celebrated precursor on Buchanan Street. It also bears the hallmarks of Glasgow’s celebrated artist, architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh, although the focus in on the White Dining Room and Chinese Room with their art-nouveau motifs, friezes and distinctive furniture. This branch is licensed, so you can enjoy a glass of Prosecco or Champagne with your afternoon tea – a traditional three-tiered stand loaded with fresh-cut sandwiches, scones and buttered shortbread, plus cakes from the trolley and a choice of loose-leaf teas. Willow’s meringues are legendary, but the all-day offer runs all the way from porridge and scrambled eggs to salads, speciality sandwiches and Scottish specialities – think rarebits, haggis with neeps, Arbroath smokies, and sweet cloutie dumplings.
