Those needing to stop and refuel while on a shopping spree are rather spoilt at Debenhams’s pan-Asian restaurant. The space itself, inspired by the five elements – fire, earth, water, wood and metal – has plenty to invigorate, and watching the chefs at work preparing sushi or char-grilling their choices on the robata does wonders for the appetite. Even breakfast has an oriental slant, with matcha granola or dorayaki sweet Japanese pancakes. But later in the day the menu of Asian all-time hits is so spot-on that it’s hard to make a choice. Will it be sashimi from Japan or a Thai-inspired tom yum soup? Dim sum from China perhaps, or Korean kimchi with a Malaysian chicken satay? Puds are thinner on the ground, but the green tea crème brûlée with cornflake ice cream ticks plenty of boxes.
