THE WEST HILL TAVERN
A home-from-home on the hill

A family-run independent PIZZA pub with a creative edge, 2 mins from Brighton station.

Built in 1852 and formerly known as the Belle Vue Inn, The West Hill Tavern (or The Westie as it is affectionately known by its locals) run by Ben & Heather Pistor since 2017 is a traditional pub with smiley staff and a real community feel.

Soak up the art and relaxed vibes. Sip Brighton’s Black Rock coffee and make use of the free wifi whilst relaxing to the hum of their favourite French radio station, Fip.

The guys from Great British Charcuterie Co. serve up sourdough pizza, salads and desserts from 4pm weekdays and 12pm Saturday - when you can also reserve a table for their Bottomless Brunch - any brunch pizza and 1.5 hours of bottomless seasonal mimosas or Prosecco cocktails for £27.5!

And of course, no pub would be complete without a Sunday roast, and here you’ll find one of Brighton’s best.

They take their drinks pretty seriously too. Negroni’s take centre stage and there’s something for everyone - whether you like yours dry and classic, with a hit of rum or a fruity twist. Plus a list of international and craft beers including Beavertown’s Neck Oil and local Hand Brew Co’s, Low Five Vienna Pale, a curious gin list from around the world, a bloody good Bloody Mary Happy Hour and a very more-ish Coconut Rum Espresso Martini.

DJs often set the soundtrack to the night at the weekend, and there’s a variety of events including Quiz Nights and Craft Workshops too. Check out WHAT’S ON.

The walls feature work for sale from local artists and makers. Current artists in residence include Amy Isle Freeman & Trash Flamingo, and a specially commissioned The Postman artwork featuring musical legend Gilles Peterson adorns the exterior.

Bring your friends, bring your family, bring your dog….bring the good times.

AMY ISLES FREEMAN

A wonderfully talented local artist whose work not only features inside the space as part our ‘art to buy’ gallery, but who has also transformed our exteriors. Her work brings a smile to your face. A pure joy. Visit her shop to grab a piece or two for yourself!

‘Amy’s work is full of beguiling contradictions. It is incredibly joyful and yet carries an important message; it straddles the worlds of high art and functional design; it combines the stereotypically ‘male’ skill of woodturning with decorative art, more often seen as more ‘feminine’; it is both vulnerable and yet incredibly strong. It embodies all the things a modern woman can be – the perfect representation of its creator.’ Katie Tregidden

ALICE HUMPHREYS

We instantly fell in love with Alice’s work. The dynamic pops of colour radiate positivity - the exact energy we want to share with you all in the pub this Summer. All of Alice’s art is available for sale via her shop, and she is also available for mural work and commissions.

'Alice is a visual artist who works with prints, murals, animation and illustration. In her work, she looks to blur the line between reality and imagination. With bold colour scapes and dynamic shapes, you often see elements of black used to offset the bright colours and splashes of pink, whilst mixing both geometric and organic shapes. Her work gathers inspiration from a wide variety of things, from storytelling to architecture, board game designs to sound.'
