Finding your wedding venue

Choosing your wedding venue will be one of the first major wedding planning decisions you need to make and it’s also one of the most important ones. Your wedding venue will determine the look and feel of your wedding day and will also take up a considerable amount of your wedding budget, so you want to feel confident you have found the right venue for you.

When searching for your wedding venue there are a few questions you should ask yourself:

What are your non-negotiables?

This should be a short list of things your wedding venue absolutely needs to have for you to have the wedding you are dreaming of. This could be accommodation on-site, no corkage so you can provide your own alcohol or a large capacity. This will be the quickest way to create a shortlist of wedding venues that are suitable for you.

What type of venue do you want?

If you have an idea of whether you would like a wedding in a castle, a barn or a stately home then that will help you narrow your search. However if you don’t know then don’t panic, start browsing and you will soon get a feel of what you like.

Where do you need to compromise?

You may need to compromise as a couple if you both have different ideas of what you want for your wedding day, or you may need to accommodate family requirements. Be clear from the start about what you both want from your wedding day so you can find a happy medium.

What is your budget?

This may sound like a straightforward one but having at least a rough idea of your budget is essential before you start viewing venues, the last thing you want to do is fall in love with a location that is way out of your price range.
