First-look: Tewkesbury Park Hotel unveils its new Cotswold Suite
We spent a night at the Gloucestershire hotel to see the £3m event space in the flesh – and the rest

The view over the towns and villages of Broadway, Burford and Bibury is the first thing that hits us as we enter the new multi-million pound space at Tewkesbury Park Hotel (01684 272314). The Cotswold Suite’s exterior glass wall is what makes 200-capacity events in here a hit. The space can be used for events and weddings in its entirety, or split into three separate spaces each named after their corresponding village view – not bad for what used to be the hotel’s golf changing rooms. Walking through to the adjoining Berkeley Lounge, Bar and Terrace we realise that those views can also be enjoyed during breakouts, drinks receptions and chef’s-table experiences around the outdoor wood-fired pizza bar.

The completion of the new suite is part of an on-going £9m overhaul of the whole hotel. From the superior king-size bed in our King Richard III suite in the refurbished part of the building, we can see views stretching over the hotel’s 6,579-yard, par-72 golf course. Five other Opulence and three Indulgence suites have been added to bring the calibre of the hotel’s accommodation up to par, while the foyer and cocktail bar now feature plush blue and yellow furnishings, art-deco style details and clever bookcase separators to create intimate drinking areas. Our favourite spot though is The Orangery: a semi-private space adjoined to the Garden Restaurant, its gin and succulent display wall and views over the croquet lawn make it a bright spot for semi-private dinners for 36 guests. The pan-fried Brixham scallop and Gloucester old spot pork three ways made us very happy customers.

So, what’s next? ‘We’re looking to have the rest of the hotel’s event spaces, the spa and the restaurant refurbished at the start of next year,’ meetings coordinator Stacy Seasbourne tells me. We’d be more than happy to pop back to see the results.
