In an early Victorian building that used to be an eye hospital, the 66-bedroom Hotel du Vin Birmingham has a central courtyard with retractable roof. The courtyard itself is a smart spot for a drinks reception and there are four further event spaces. The Krug is a grand mirrored hall with lots of daylight and space for up to 100. At the other end of the scale there is Opus One. With art hung on deep purple walls and original wooden floorboards, it is prepared for board meetings or private dining. Like its big sister Sassicaia, Opus One has direct access to the courtyard. The Bistro is open all day, the Bubble Lounge is where you retire for a post-dinner cigar, and the more informal Pub du Vin showcases local craft ales.
