SquareMeal Review of The Drift

Bronze Award

If visual clutter, cocktails, cacophony and clattery acoustics are your idea of how to unwind in the City, drift into this boozy cauldron around 7pm as the post-work crescendo hits a high – although you'll need to shout your order for an adequate pineapple and cardamom margarita or a low-cal skinny cucumber and passion fruit martini. A good selection of wines runs from numerous selections by the glass (including Prosecco at £5.95) to bottles of vintage Puligny-Montrachet for flush speculators. Just about every current trend is covered on a menu that includes anything from prawn lollipops or mac and cheese to brunch stuff, burgers, bangers, bouillabaisse and boards to share. Likewise, the styling of this cavernous, post-industrial concrete duplex also reprises numerous ideas seen in cooler bars around town.

Hosted drinks reception @ The Drift for clients in early 2022 and the staff was wonderful. We had drinks and good food flowing the entire evening. Everyone really enjoyed it. The location is convienent and the food well prepared.

Try the duck flatbread
Enjoyed a lunch at The Drift with 4 colleagues/friends and a one year old. There was a highchair on hand, We can recommend the duck flatbread as a sharing starter. The duck salad was filling. The sea bass was had by two of the guests and I tried the venison pie with celeriac mash which was a bit too salty for my taste. All in all a very enjoyable lunch.

Not impressed!
We had booked The Drift for our annual secretaries Christmas Lunch, we were so looking forward to a get together out of the office and having a good old catch up! Once we had arrived at the restaurant we were really shocked about the amount of tables that had been crammed onto the dining area and how close the tables were to each other. We were all eating on top of one another, which was extremely uncomfortable but we were all still trying to make the best of it. The waitresses were having a really hard time trying to reach everyone to give them their lunch due to the sheer amount of tables and chairs backed up against each other – resulting in many spillages. Once the bill had finally arrived we didn’t have time to look or check it as we needed to rush to get back to work. On our way out of the restaurant one of the ladies noticed several tomato ketchup stains on her coat and bag, due to the waitresses dropping things as they were trying to lean over tables and chairs in order to deliver food. Completely unacceptable, we spoke with the manager who didn’t really seem to care she looked more interested in the amount of people walking through the door and where they were going to be seated, even though we had already paid extra for the service charge! She advised my colleague to have her coat dry-cleaned and bring in the receipt and they would reimburse her for the dry-cleaning cost. This is no good, she was attending a client dinner that evening and needed to look smart, in fact I believe she is going to throw the coat and handbag away. Not only did this completely ruin her coat and bag but the whole experience ruined our lunch too we always recommend The Drift for client breakfast and lunches, not sure we will now after today.

Laidback Champagne Festive Breakfast
Myself and 3 friends had a very relaxing Festive Champagne Breakfast which included a full English breakfast, 2 eggs royale and one smoked salmon and scrambled egg with tea and a glass of champagne. Service was very good and the food delicious.

Lovely
This was my director's third visit in the last couple of months and when asked by me how he found his latest visit the response was "lovely".

Two visits in the space of one week
Initially booked for a party of 6 colleagues. The feeling was it was noisy but buzzy. There was too much to choose from on the menu. Everyone enjoyed their visit so much so that one of the director returned a week later as he liked the duck salad so much.

Great City Spot
The Drift is a great City Spot for anyone looking for a quick bite to eat, coffee during the day or after work drinks - a great all rounder for the needs of busy business professionals in London. The service is always impeccable, from reservation through to delivering the bill the ladies and gents that run the show really go above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable. The atmosphere is always buzzing, which adds to it's city center vibe. A must go for business meetings and meeting with friends alike.

Great lunch spot
Fast, friendly service. I met a friend for lunch and we were served quickly and politely, even with a big group on the table next to us. We both really enjoyed our food and would certainly go back. Really light, bright and open decor makes the place feel much bigger than it is too.

Good food, good atmoshphere and good staff
Decent spot for lunch. We all had the set menu and it was really nice. Cooked well and actually more than we could eat with the starter and main course. Cocktails were delicious and beautifully presented. Recommend it for a working lunch. Or just a good lunch.

Ok if you work next door!
I have been here numerous times for lunches, team drinks & bar snacks and drinks, as with any Drake & Morgan bar the food is good and not too expensive and the menu is quite inventive for a bar food menu. However, this is probably my least favourite Drake & Morgan bar/restaurant as the odd angular shape inside makes it feel like you are always in the way of someone or stuffed in a corner, and also where its location is, it has an outside area which (because of the building it is in) is exceptionally windy and never gets any sun.....so a bit of a pointless outside area really! It is however good if you want to pop for lunch and work next door (which I do not), the cocktail menu is very good at Drake & Morgan bars and the drinks not too steep - although Drift is not somewhere I would particularly choose to go to and even though I have been here several times, including today, it's always because someone else has booked it. I would recommend walking a bit further and going to one of their other restaurants such as the Folly or the Anthologist if you like the menu and drinks list.
