SquareMeal Review of Sushi Hiroba

This serviceable kaiten outfit on busy Kingsway is a popular shout for local workers & LSE students in search of a quick sushi fill-up – though larger groups can pack into the side booths for mighty bowls of noodles followed by a karaoke session in one of the bookable spaces downstairs. Top-notch sushi & sashimi, freshly prepared by chefs in the centre of the conveyor belt, includes mackerel, sweet shrimps & fatty tuna belly, all served on colour-coded plates (£2.20-5.20 each). Bulging hand rolls, neat maki & battleship maki loaded with gleaming fish roe are equally tempting, though hot dishes such as chicken teriyaki are more hit & miss. The set-up is smart – think a gleaming black counter & Japanese artwork lit by traditional square lanterns – but there have been a few gripes about service.

Customor service: 2/5. Quality of food : 3/5. Price/ quality: 3/5 . to expensive for what it is. I was a regular customer at this restorant near holborn station , the people working there knew me and they knew I was a student and for the students you receive 10 percent discount. . When I was about to pay I asked for student discount and they refused to give it to me. They made an error in what we ate and charged us more. when i asked to take of the exess they refused and believed we had consumed but did not want to pay. The customer service is unfriendly. We had to argue to receive our student discount even though they knew I was a student. The quality/ price ratio is far to expensive. I do not recommend to take the sweet and sour chicken, it was cold and unfresh. And even did not look good. If you would like to eat sushi I recommend wasabi restorant, sushi samba, toka restorant and many other. They all vary in price , wasabi bring the cheapest and sushi samba being the most expensive however sushi hiroba is one restorant I truly do not recommend you to go to.

The food at Hiroba is usually relatively good, like the sushi and the sashimi are all pretty fresh and the place is popular with LSE students and working adults alike. But the service there is disappointing. The manager did not allow us to sit on the table for 4 even though we had already booked it as I arrived alone first and I was on time. This is supposedly the case for many Chinese restaurants in where there are alot of people and they only give you tables when the party is fully assembled, but for the prices that you pay at Hiroba, it is simply not worth it. The manager was rude and unfriendly by suggesting that we change tables half way during the meal as our other 2 friends hadn't come after the first half hour that we were there and after we had already started eating quite alot. I told the manager that they were coming and he seemed unhappy about it. When they eventually came and we sat and ate the meal, there wasn't much service to speak of because most of the food was by the conveyor belt and we were made to pay the usual 10% later, which amounted to about 10 pounds. The whole meal cost 35 for me. So I complained to the manager that the way they spoke to us about the table was unacceptable and he had a very bad attitude, insisted this was restaurant policy and even argued with me about it. I wouldn't recommend the place to anyone who is looking for friendly service or a place where you'd expect to get your table when you arrive on time. Hiroba is a decidedly expensive restaurant and the attitude of the staff was and is pretty unacceptable. So please, if you do want respect, go somewhere else for sushi.

Sometimes I decide to walk around and see where I end up. And that night I ended up at Sushi Hiroba. You sit down on a concept similar to Yo Sushi. But oh no, it is nothing like Yo Sushi. I think I am a bit embarrassed to compare something to Yo Sushi on a review, but now you can picture the plates going around. To start off, the ginger is quite nice. A very important point. You can chose small plates with 2 or 3 pieces of tempura, sushi rolls, crab clams, niguiri, sashimi, desserts, edamame, etc. And you can also order from the menu a lot more. You can pick as many and as different combinations as you like, but I would strongly recommend to try new things. They come in tiny small plates anyway. So why not, try that eel you´ve never dared to. I´ve also noticed that there are some great big plates for larger tables, but since I always sit by the counter, I could not give my opinion about it, other than saying that they look pretty tempting. You can sit in front of the plates that go around, or on larger tables on the side. Either option is great. The staff if lovely and helpful. Sometimes they´ll even feel very motivated and put some nice music on. This will certainly not be a very romantic fancy dinner, (or maybe it will, you let me know) but you will enjoy to experience these flavors. You can go for a quick lunch or dinner.
