Reliable and predictable, this Roux outpost runs like a well-oiled machine. Though Michel Roux Jnr is the figurehead, the kitchen is headed up by MasterChef: The Professionals winner Steve Groves, whose cooking is beyond reproach. Sit in the bar over cocktails or a glass of wine with something light to eat (an open smoked salmon sandwich, say); otherwise, join the corporate types and Westminster lobbyists in the dining room for the whole caboodle. The menu is chock-full of grand ingredients such as langoustine with prawn tortellini, Goosnargh chicken with liquid sweetcorn and delicate Parmesan dumplings to start, while mains range from roast turbot with dill and seaweed butter to the star turn of silky-soft confit suckling pig scented with star anise. Ripe cheeses and smart puds follow (roast peach with raspberries, Muscat and oats, say), while the steeply priced wine list is built to impress.

A definite hotspot!

It’s a mystery as to why this ever lost a Michelin star. The menu is concise and well composed; dishes have been so well thought out and balanced in every respect……chicken wings and Morteau sausage burst with robust flavour; quail breasts with earthy mushroom risotto set off with a crispy puffed rice topping is divinity on a plate. I had a plateful of deliciousness which was also a visual treat - one of the best starters I have had anywhere, so much so that we revisited the same week.
We returned again last week, so in our three visits, for main course we had turbot twice, pig thrice and venison once. Star main for me was the turbot (better than a similarly styled Dover sole dish I had in Le Manoir on Valentine’s Day). It was a turbot dish to mourn as soon as it had gone, and so sublime that it will stay in my memory. Suckling pig was very good, but for a masterclass in suckling pig, it is necessary to leave our shores and head for Lisbon, where the chef at Belcanto has created the most sensational piggy my husband and I have ever tasted – perhaps an unfair comparison with a 2* but for me, quail and turbot were worthy of 2* Michelin award let alone 1*. Having been so lucky to dine in top restaurants all over London and some of Western Europe for decades, I am no longer wowed by pomp and ceremony. If you want the razzamatazz, then don’t go here. Do go if you appreciate excellent food, served by a very knowledgeable, young team who are generous on smiles and whose attentions are focused on the diner, within a semi-formal but relaxed setting. Passion comes through in the cooking and all staff seem to care about what they do and how they do it. I had a minor issue, which was more of a preference rather than a fault, and without hesitation, this was adjusted to my liking. Wines are nearly always good as are the recommendations.

The best restaurant experience i've had. Food was incredible, accompanied by beautiful wines. Staff were knowledgeable and attentive but allowed us time and privacy. The dining room was understated and intimate but created a feeling of opulence and elegance. Prices were appropriate for a meal of this calibre.

Excellent food beautifully cooked and presented but without being pretentious. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Given the quality of the food, it was very good value for money as well.

Food was well thought out and the courses had a variety of tastes and textures. The presentation was detailed with a lovely style of plating. Drinks choices were subtle and the number of options were of the perfect amount to not overwhelm the diner. Service was very good and attentive. Staff took the time to explain each course and reacted very well to an unfortunate incidence of a mouse running into the restaurant from a nearby construction site. The disturbance was resolved as best as possible and the staff reassured each table of the situation and took the drinks off our final bill as a apologetic gesture to the pesky intrusion! Decor was simple and sophisticated and in my opinion could do with a bit more character but the table layout was perfect. Ambience was calm and slightly controlled. The diners ranged from business, friendly catch up to romantic date night and the venue suited all though it seems to cater to the more quieter style of diners. We dined there knowing that it was not going to cost the average dinner price range but the non alcoholic cocktails at £10 apiece was delicious and the price was worth the experience and tastes!
