Refuel at The Soho Hotel

Food - well presented, tasty, great chips, meat, fish, soup and salad.

Service - a little slow at times, the restaurant was very busy.

Overall - lovely decor. 

The Soho Hotel looks like a great Hotel. The restaurant looked fabulous - great lighting and decor. We pre-booked as it was Mothers Day and we arrived early. The room was very busy. We were asked to go to the bar and wait for our table. The Bar prices are expensive. After waiting 10 minutes beyond our booked time I went back to the manager. She offered me a table by the door ( worst table in the room?) I suggested a vacant table in the corner and she agreed to sort it out in a few moments. Almost 10 minutes late we were seated at a completely different table. It was nice but the moment was spoilt by the server telling us we had to leave this table in 2.5 hours .Luckily my wife was amused. I wasn't. The comment was completely unnecessary. The original manager came over and apologised that we we were at a completely different table than was agreed. Afternoon Tea was great though they left a sandwich off. Obtaining our coats was a bit of a palaver and involved us going to the hotel reception and they initially left a scarf in the cloakroom. All in all a great room, great atmosphere with a little bit of a wow factor let down by the service.

We have been to Soho Hotel several times as a group for a civilised afternoon tea whenever we have been able to come up with an excuse (Christmas, maternity leave, it's a weekend…) and it is perfect for a catch up when you don't want to go out for dinner or accidentally get wasted at drinks. You can of course have a drink: the afternoon tea has a champagne option but as you are gently supping in the relaxed and elegant surroundings of the library or sitting room you evade the usual guilt about consuming alcohol before the traditional 6pm English watershed. Anyway, you can drink as much tea as you can physically take on board (a propos of which, as with all hotels, the toilets are handily located on the ground floor and very accessible) which is, if not as fun as bubbles, at least as interesting as there are multiple brews from which to choose. And the food itself is fantastic: very refined with finger slices of cucumber sandwiches and the like, fruity scones, lovely little chocolatey and cakey mouthfuls. There's plenty of choice to please everyone and the kitchen accommodates any dietary needs. I get a little nervous sharing food sometimes (will there be enough for my greedy guts? will I eat embarrassingly more than my fair share?) but this is assuaged by the knowledge that sarnie top ups here are free-flowing. Service is great with waiters popping in to check on your progress but then leaving you to chomp and chat in peace. The library has a particularly lovely atmosphere being just off the lobby so you can see what's going on, with interesting lighting and decor and squashy comfy chairs, plus if you are a biggish group (8-10) it will probably be yours alone so it's very private. Our last visit was £28 a head which is good value especially when you think you won't want lunch before or supper afterwards.

We've been here many times for excellent cocktails but this is only the second time we've eaten here. We were here for our 1st wedding anniversary and came for the very reasonably priced 2 course + glass of champagne for just £21 pre-theatre menu. (To put some further context around this price, the following day we went to a well known american style diner chain and had over cooked ribs, cold chips and over deep fried greasy onion rings and a beer for about the same cost). The menu is, as you would expect, limited but that doesn't prevent quality. We plumped for a main and desert and I had an excellent prawn risotto which was creamy and tasty and the rice was perfectly cooked with an al dente bite to it. My husband had pork which looked great. We then had an Oreo cheesecake and a summer meringue. My cheesecake was good but my husband wasn't happy with his choice which he said had too much fruit jam and not enough meringue. On booking, I'd mentioned in the notes that it was our anniversary and that we'd had our first date here 5 years ago. On arrival, the maitre'd, Indre sprang us two glasses of champagne on the house and wished us a happy anniversary and after our meal the kitchen surprised us with a plate of chocolates. Dinner and a couple of cocktails came to about £70 but because they were so great to us we decided to return after the theatre for more yummy cocktails (the Summer Amore was excellent and they also make the best Cosmopolitan in town by far) and whiled away an hour or so lounging on the comfy sofas before heading home. We probably spent another £50 so their 2 free glasses of champagne and some chocs and personal service paid dividends! We have always said we would like to stay at The Soho one day and after this visit with the attention shown to us which made our evening that little bit more special, we definitely will save up and splash out on a suite one year and we will always come back here on our anniversary. After visiting Refuel, I can confirm the staff went out of there way to provide a truly lovely experience. From the moment we booked the table the staff were interested and keen. The meal was good, the chef creative and the unexpected chocolate for my daughters belated birthday went down a treat. I will return. I loved the decor it was clean crisp but not fussy

I love Refuel, this is a great Soho secret hidden away in the Soho Hotel, and once inside you are well and truly looked after. I have eaten here on many occassions now and will always return, the food is delicious and the staff so helpful. Ok its not cheap but you certainly get value for money and it can be a great venue to celeb spot, if you can, book in on a Sunday and watch a film at the cinema on the ground floor after your lunch.

Went for my wedding anniversary last night. I told them it was my anniversary when I booked and when we were seated, they gave us complimentary glasses of champagne to congratulate us, which was lovely. They also gave us a complementary plate of personalised chocolate treats for dessert. The service was outstanding. The food was pretty good. Delicious beetroot soup with horseradish cream to start, followed by a tuna dish, which was cooked to perfection, but was just too big. It was served with a cucumber and chilli salad, very nice, but could have done with something else on the plate. Wine was rediculously expensive (my single glass was about £12 & that was at the cheaper end, although delicious) and the waiter let me try a few before selecting one. Atmosphere was lovely, but it definetly had that hotel feel about it. I think that because it was a bank-holiday monday night, it was a bit on the quiet side. Saw quite a few celebs relaxing in the bar area though!
