SquareMeal Review of Novikov - Asian Restaurant

Silver Award

Unashamedly flash, Arkady Novikov’s double-handed celebrity magnet, touting both Asian or Italian dishes, comes with a broad remit for the big-money crowd. The headlining pan-Asian option might seem a tad heavy-handedly “exotic”, though the menu is ripe for cross-border plundering – from Padrón peppers to prawn tempura or sweet-and-sour chicken. Sashimi salads, spicy tuna rolls and various dim sum might open your account, while other dishes such as seared Wagyu sirloin or a porcini and truffle rice hotpot represent a line-up rich in eccentricities. Purists seethe at the very idea, but it’s supposed to be fun – albeit of a kind that’s not universally accessible. In the lounge, you can get Italian and Asian food, alongside a slightly overworked cocktail list or a fine range of fizz, including Louis Roederer Brut Premier, by the magnum, jeroboam or even methuselah (6ltr). The heavily hyped private jet menu is one of Novikov’s more novel ideas, although any super-rich takers will miss the opportunity to see and be seen.

Best dim sum in London. Incredible value if you order from the set lunch menue - where can you get foie gras and truffle oil dumplings, wagu beef dumplings, duck winglets and duck rolls for these prices! Lovely staff, kitchen in customers site with a wonderful market display so you can shop and buy fish and fruits and vegetables after lunch! Downstairs a great Italian so 2 restaurants in one!

Wish the customer service was as good downstairs
Sushi has got to be one of my favourite foods, feed me good sushi and I’ll be happy for life! Upon arriving we were greeted by a friendly host- Katharina who showed us to our seats, embracing the Asian themed interior. I loved the openness of the kitchen, as it’s reassuring to see everything made fresh before you. The open market where you can buy fresh vegetables and seafood is quite inviting and once again emphasises an Asian cultural experience.  I’ve eaten several times at Novikov and this time was no exception before the waiter could ask any questions, I knew exactly what I wanted and how it would taste and I wasn’t disappointed! Firstly we started with French Gillardeau no.2 oysters (4 Oysters) a natural aphrodisiac, which is full of protein, vitamins and, minerals, the taste was exquisite, surprisingly, as my preferred preference being Scottish Oysters.  Next was Sashimi, now I’m a sucker for Salmon and yellowtail, so I always order the same thing, but I decided to be bold and also order Scallops, which I regretted, not because of the taste, simply because I like what I like and that is Salmon Sashimi paired with Yellowtail Sashimi in Jalapeno peppers ;) For maki rolls, spicy tuna is always my choice, accompanied by lots of Wasabi and soy sauce. I like things spicy! Sometimes when eating a lot of sushi, my mouth tends to feel a bit cold and that’s when Dim dum comes into play, Spicy Prawn dim sum was required just lift my tastes buds. And it is always better to finish with a salad, we ordered two duck salads, second mistake as the salad is quite filling and it is best to order one to share. Topped with leafy greensand pomegranates this salad is filled with zest but still remains a meaty taste. White wine was a great choice to pair with Sushi as anything else starts to turn my stomach. I thoroughly enjoyed my night and the atmosphere was nice, as we arrived at 7pm and watched as diners started to flood in, making Novikov full by 9pm. Overall the food was amazing and our host gave us the best customer service, however once in the lounge, the customer service is very poor with staff only serving you if you have a large table. We waited 45 minutes for a drink and it seems you have to be dressed inappropriately to get served!

I just keep going back, one of my all time favourites in London! From the service to the decor, your meal here feels special and relaxed. The service at Novikov is top class, from the moment your walk through the door the hostesses and waiters attend to your every requirement. The menu is varied, so it has something for all taste buds, and its not so large that you get confused with the choices. The food tastes insane and comes out quickly but not rush. I'm a meat lover so my favs are the Wagyu Beef tacos and the Lamb Chops. If this isn't enough, they have a fresh deli counter at the back of the restaurant where you can pick up fresh fish, meat and veg to take away with you, you could even do you weekly shop. Its incredible! Our night always ends with more drink down in the club!

Outstanding food, wine and cocktails. Not a fish eater but the selection of fresh fish to see and select from is amazing. Great atmosphere for all ages, especially the bar downstairs if you want to continue your night out after dinner.

Asian Novikov become very bad quality day by day
We went to Asian Novikov for birthday of my friend on 12th of Sep. We were 10 people. I would like to say firstly about quality of the food there. The Black cod was awful , prepared very bad, taste was horoble. Tuna sashimi was defenetly not fresh, it was quite sticky. salmon tartare was made with a too much vinegar. Crab legs usually don t do with so much mayonese. About service is also no one good word. I was in Novikov not first time and in Asian and in Italian, and for sure my advice for everybody the Italian is very good there, but Asian become very bad quality day by day.

Terrible
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. I visited the Asian restaurant with my sister on 26th May. The service was sub standard to start with and we had to ask multiple times for soya sauce and cutlery. The starters and sushi I have to say were decent, however the main course, which included tiger prawns and chilean sea bass, were terrible. After making a complaint the following day and being assured my matter would be looked into and I would be appropriately compensated, I have heard nothing since. This is despite multiple phone calls and repeat emails to the managers. Each time I am sympathetically spoken to and reassured someone will revert back to me within 24 hours, however it has now been 2 weeks since. I think this is appalling customer service for what was a very expensive and below average meal. I will not be visiting this restaurant ever again.

deep pockets required!
I have been here of numerous occassions for drinks, but last night was the first time i have dinned here. we chose the japanese restaurant, service was very slow to start, i think we sat for 20 minutes before someone came and took our order. The menu is vast, sashimi selection was excellent and extremely fresh as was the chillie squid really very good. Maki rolls are not quite up there with zuma's, dim sum was excellent and full of flavour. we opted for salomon for main and steak and scallops which were overcooked and rubbery., both were average and nothing special. desserts selection were very good indeed especially the green tea mouse , superb. If you can get past the Pretentious staff and stuck up russian and middle east clientel ,then this is the place for you, but prepare to take a big hit to your wallet, my goodness this place makes zuma look cheap! Would i go again, probably but only for a very special occasion. id probably stick to zuma or dinings.

THE BEST
I've been to the likes of nobu, nozomi, hakkasan, Zuma, China tang, kai, giglamesh etc. I love fine dining and I'm constantly looking for the best asian cuisine in london! This is by far the best! The sushi is amazing and the duck fried rice is to die for! I went there for a girls night out and it was heavenly; good crowd, beautiful decor, attentive staff etc. Although the wine list is a little pricey. would definitely go back!
