SquareMeal Review of Navarro's

Navarro’s was peddling bodega vibes, peasant tapas & glasses of sherry long before the whole shebang became part of in-vogue Fitzrovia, & it still has a special charge – complete with occasionally ‘mañana’-esque service. In a setting of tiled walls, stencilled white furniture & ceramics, you can pick from an all-embracing menu that keeps it traditional with a vengeance. Among the treats on offer might be ham & chicken croquetas, slices of jamón ibérico, grilled sardines, pickled white anchovies & fresh-from-the-fryer calamares, plus veggie favourites such as homely patatas bravas & salted green Padrón peppers – although some find it all a touch ‘too greasy’. The exclusively Spanish wine list comes complete with helpful tasting notes. Note: tables on the ground floor are preferable to those in the overspill basement.

Felt I needed to make a comment re our visit to this restaurant last week. Food was quickly delivered after order but seemed to be possibly pre-cooked and definitely did not resemble anything I have tasted on many trips to Spain. avoided the highly overpriced “fish specialities” after the adjacent table complained they were of poor quality. best part of the meal was the bread with ali oli which says it all about this 2 nd trip in 2 years. BTW high priced mediocre house Riojas to boot! Avoid upstairs tables if cold outside.

Firm favourite from across the years for both work and play. The food is always consistently delicious and hearty! The only thing I would say is the indifferent slow service…However I can live with that as the food is great and the prices are reasonable!

Soo average. The food is really greasy and just is a fraction of the quality of Finos or Salt Yard. Plus the tables downstairs smells of urinal blocks…please avoid!

Can not sing highly enough about this Tapas/Spanish restaurant – have been so many times and will continue to return. Having tried Fino, Cigala, etc Navarros outshines them all by far. Fairly priced excellent dishes, great atmosphere – you have that bit of traditional tapas and Spain that is needed, friendly staff, etc, etc. It's a shame they are only open limited hours so make sure you book early to avoid dissppointment. I have called on the day before and been lucky but best to book. If you fancy tapas in central london go here before you go anwhere else so you will then have the best yard stick to measure all the rest by. The ‘rest of them’ are lost in a world of trendies and modern design with very high prices for very small portions and in a lot of cases badly cooked food or poor quality of ingredients.

Navarros is a great place for authentic, unpretentious spanish tapas. The tortilla espanola is delicious and the chorizo is amazing. Even better the house rioja is fantastic. This is a great place for groups, the set menus provide great bang for the buck. One of my favorite places in London and consistently great since I started going there in 2000.
