SquareMeal Review of Minako at the Hilton London Metropole

The views at ground level aren’t particularly edifying, but from the top of the Hilton London Metropole, the Marylebone flyover seems far distant. Boasting ‘the best views of London in London’ (according to the blurb), Minako’s dedicated bar doesn’t need to alter its black-on-black, rather corporate decor: everyone’s looking out of the window at the skyscraper scenery. Drinking generally means Champagne or cocktails, so peruse the list for one of the 10 variants on the martini theme, something cheekily retro or a Thai twist on Pimm’s jazzed up with mint, chilli, coriander & mint. If you do decide to have dinner in the restaurant, the menu offers regulation pan-Asian grazing & sharing from a predictably on-trend menu. Either way, linger & enjoy: at night, the effect is truly bewitching.

Hmmmm, not sure about this, odd part of town with not the best views of London with decor very much stuck in the 80s. Dont think its worth the trip up there when you can get better views and food for a little more money at other better known restaurants with a view like the Royal Garden Hotel, Paramount, Galvin etc. It was a great hotel restaurant if you are staying at the hotel but I dont think it would be a Londoners destination restaurant unless they do a massive overhaul and make it feel a little less drab.

Super hidden gem. If this place was in Kensington you'd pay double and have to book a week in advance. But it's not. It's hidden at the top of this huge hotel and – unlike the hotel's sister in Park Lane – the restaurant has not managed to garner the fame of Galvin at Windows. Granted – the food is not Michellin starred but it is jolly good. Match this with the views across London that equal those at Park Lane; almost equal those at OXO; and surpass the views from most other Asian restaurants then you have a winner. Added to that the prices are not silly …and the place is still well fitted out in a way that is not ageing. One feels rather clever coming here…
