SquareMeal Review of Mews Pizza Co.

This former branch of Rocket has been re-cast as the Mews Pizza Co – a bright, airy venue with a high glass ceiling and a good line in cosmopolitan sustenance. The first-floor restaurant produces wood-fired posh pizzas from an open kitchen, offering standard choices as well as more creative toppings such as lobster with smoked black pudding and green chillies, or pulled pork. More weird still are the dessert pizzas (wild strawberry and limoncello), soon to be joined by brunch pizzas. Anywhere else this would be gimmicky, but here the Mayfair location and the quality of ingredients count for much. The kitchen is equally adept at imaginative salads (such as cod ‘fritto’ with bean shoots, pea and coconut sauce), grills (marinated tuna with cannellini beans and citrus dressing, say), and lively desserts. The ground-floor bar is well-stocked, and the traffic-free courtyard is a bonus for maxed-out West End shoppers.

Located in a tucked away courtyard that was buzzing on a warm evening. Food, atmosphere, service and value all very good an definitely worth another visit. An interesting find.

Great pizzas and salads tucked away behind Bond Street
I haven't eaten here since it was called Rocket, but had an impromptu lunch out with my niece who was shopping near to my office. The pizzas looked really good but we decided to share some truffle arancini, ham croquettes and a panzanella salad (one of the croutons was so tough I couldn't bite through it at all), but apart from that the food was tasty, and filling (salads are large, so perfect for sharing). Service was quick and efficient. An enjoyable lunch, I must visit more often.

A 5-star pizza
We were a group of 4 visiting this little gem of a restaurant for the very first time. Fabulous service and awesome pizzas! I particularly recommend the pizza with mushrooms and truffles. Yum, yum, yum! We will definitely be going back to this tucked away find in Mayfair!

A good alternative
Mayfair has no shortage of fine dining options adorned with Michelin stars, but sometimes something as simple as a pizza is all one wants. In this respect, the Mayfair Pizza Co. does the job. It is also a notable improvement on its predecessor in this venue (Rocket). After climbing a narrow staircase, diners enter a light-filled room. Tables are also well-spaced and it is possible to have a decent conversation with your dining comrade without either having to shout or feel that others are listening in. The fayre is pretty standard, around a dozen pizzas as well as a handful of pasta options and salads. My comrade went for a caprina with goat’s cheese, while I selected a seasonal special comprising ham, mushroom and artichoke. The crusts on both were thin and toppings substantial. Priced at £10-15 each, this is good value food for Mayfair standards. Our carafe of Montepulciano (again selected from a brief list) was adequate, but did the job. Service was efficient, but again far from stand-out. No complaints; simple can be good.

Good place for a nice dinner
Rocket in Lancashire Court has been one of my favourite places since I moved to London 9 years ago. And even if the name is now Mayfair Pizza Co. it will continue to be one of my favourites. The food is reasonably priced and it is lovely, great big salads, great pizzas, salmon & crayfish fishcakes are my favourite. Would recommend this place to anyone…
