SquareMeal Review of LPM Restaurant & Bar

It’s now an international brand, but correspondents say London’s iteration of this Nice-inspired restaurant is superior for its light, fresh dishes. With a well-established buzz and a pale, clean-lined dining room splashed with colours of the Med, La Petite Maison “always feels special”. Starters double as small sharing plates that are true to their regional roots: a table laden with pissaladière, “fabulous” seafood carpaccio, sweet peppers in olive oil, sliced octopus and feta-topped ratatouille makes a transporting lunch. Mains might be duck glazed with orange, roast monkfish with spicy chickpeas or grilled lamb cutlets with smoked aubergine, while flourishes such as the fresh almonds served with a fillet of halibut show that the kitchen takes care with the details. Desserts may not reinvent the wheel, but warm chocolate mousse with malt ice cream will do just fine. In line with the food, wine prices exhibit a degree of ambition. “I could eat here every day”, confesses one fan.

About

Since its launch in 2007 the success and popularity of this quintessentially French restaurant in the heart of Mayfair has propelled it to launch sites across the globe in locations including Miami, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Hong Kong – all of which have been met with similar critical acclaim.

The interiors of the London site are inspired by the vibrant colours of France’s Cote d’Azur with fine linens and marble table tops contributing to the restaurant’s distinctive French elegance. The walls are adorned with an eclectic mix of modern art and accessories reminiscent of the “Belle Epoque”. Determined to undermine any stereotypes surrounding French service, the team go above and beyond to make their diners feel welcome and enthusiasm comes in abundance.

Wine, as you would expect, is exclusively French with a large selection of Champagnes and a varied choice of red, white and rosé labels available by the glass or carafe. Staff will be able to guide you with your selection to pair with your meal.

The food celebrates the lighter side of French cooking, focussing on the simple but unassailable flavours of the Mediterranean. The Nicoise menu is brimming with ingredients from the French Riviera with artichokes, courgettes, olives and lemons aplenty. From the hors d’oeuvres diners can choose from a selection of salads and carpaccio dishes as well as classic bistro starters that include snails in fresh herbs and garlic butter, deep fried baby squid, and salt cod croquettes with oven roasted pepper relish. Mains are equally traditional with highlights including turbot with artichokes, chorizo, white wine and olive oil; slow cooked dug legs with an orange glaze; and linguine pasta with Algarvian clams and prawns.

Finally the desserts list promises an indulgent selection of French classics; vanilla crème brulée, pain perdu with spiced ice cream, a thin crust apple tart and a warm chocolate mousse with malt ice cream.

Awful customer service to a regular customer!!
Unprofessional and worst customer experience for regular customer at what supposedly a fine dining restaurant I had a reservation at 9 pm earlier tonight and I arrived at 8:45 however the table wasn’t ready yet, at 9:02 i asked the lady who’s responsible for reservations that if our table was ready yet, she said “you have to be patient and it’s a favor of me to give you a table” even though my hotel who was responsible of getting me the reservation, then suddenly started to lecture me about islam and patience in islam i told her that I don’t care about that argument now, then she told me if u dont, u r happy to leave and points her hand to the door, i asked for a duty manager and he totally support her claims and starts asking me are you Happy to stay with us, I decided thanks but no thanks

I could eat here every day.
This is my 4th visit to La Petite Maison, this time with 4 colleagues. I like the "sharing" concept in restaurants and even the "make your own tomato salad" from the ingredients on the table, a nice touch while eating their delicious baguette. We had lentil salad (with apple), octopus carpaccio, marinated beetroot salad, beef carpaccio, crab and lobster salad, salmon and guacamole, fried squid, roast monkfish with a spicy chickpea tomato sauce, veal parpadelle, duck glazed with orange, rib eye and lamb cutlets a few sides. We finished up with a lemon sorbet with a shot of vodka poured over. We couldn't and didn't want to move after all that food, but the next sitting had arrived. Every dish was superb, my guests said it was the best meal they had eaten in a very long time. I will be back when expenses or my bank balance allows.

Big dissapointment.
We went on Friday night for dinner, Marinated salmon bland and dry,Carpaccio de Thon average at best, no seasoning what so ever .Baby squid lukewarm and chewy. Sea bass, lukewarm and tiny portion even though was a main dish. We also opted for pork as a main dish, nothing special , quite fatty and lukewarm ,Pommes de Terre Gratinées lukewarm. A real disappointment. Extremely annoying that chef cannot get hot food out of the kitchen. Our Pommes de Terre Gratinées came out first then our pork 10 minutes later. A complete shambles. This place is charging top dollar, shame that does not translate on to the plate! General manager took our comments on board and did the right thing, but sadly I will not be returning any time soon.
