SquareMeal Review of Korova Restaurant

Bronze Award

North Londoners should be overjoyed that this family-run French bistro-cum-cocktail lounge has opened in their back yard. Tucked down a side street, Korova is a lovely place to spend an evening – complete with blackboard menu, vintage chequerboard tiles and aged wine bottle candles. We’d recommend starting with a Hemingway Daiquiri (rum, grapefruit bitters and Maraschino), before moving on to a glass of the Korova white: a perfect accompaniment to seared scallops with Bayonne ham and roasted red-pepper sauce. To follow, lamb with Jerusalem artichoke and redcurrant sauce is succulent and hearty, while the Béarnaise sauce with the rib-eye was one of the best we’ve had. Service is warm and attentive, both at dinner and weekend brunch. If you’ve room, the banana, pineapple and rum tarte Tatin – served with wonderful caramel fudge ice cream – is well worth the indulgence (although the pastry could be crispier). An intimate gem of a restaurant.

Great menu
My friend has just moved into Tufnell Park , so we thought we'd check this well recommended local restaurant out. I have to say the place is fantastic. It has a wonderful feel to it, the interior is very retro , I would say 1930s at a guess , the ceiling is a real feature. The menu is compact , but well thought out and presented on a chalk board, apparently this changes weekly .the food was divine , well presented with some classic and unusual ( seasonal?) ingredients. We had rump of lamb, which was cooked 2 ways with monks beard and Jerusalem artichoke and a huge piece of sea trout with mussels and trout eggs. Dessert was also very good , a crime brûlée made with Tonka bean instead of vanilla, which was a good twist on a classic.a well thought out wine list in addition to the great food and service made this a really memorable meal.
