Comfort food abounds at this homage to no-nonsense English cooking, which has been plying its trade on a Pimlico side street for nearly 30 years. Don’t expect to see Welsh lamb or Scottish smoked salmon on the menu, let alone pasta or pommes frites – Chimes is unashamedly Anglocentric in outlook. The menu tours the counties for dishes such as Shropshire fidget pie, Cumberland sausages & mash or cod in West Country cider, while treacle tart & apple crumble fight it out on the list of self-proclaimed ‘puddings’ (not ‘desserts’!). The dining room resembles an English country pub with worn wooden tables & dusty bric-a-brac complemented by a lovely old bar, which serves up a vast orchard of ciders including Weston’s Old Rosie at a dizzying 8% abv.
