SquareMeal Review of Brixton Cornercopia

Dishing up genuinely local produce in bijou, quirky surroundings, this labour of love is symbolic of the regeneration of Brixton Village market. The cute interior – complete with sage-green wood panelling & communal tables – has jams from local allotments & home-baked breads on its shelves. Starting life as a deli, Cornercopia has grown into a fully-fledged restaurant, with the husband & wife team behind it sourcing ingredients from the markets & small producers around Brixton, & sending out seasonal, good-value food from their open kitchen. The pithy menu lists the likes of spiced Dorset crab tart with apple & fennel; whole roast Cornish plaice with caper butter; & raspberry frangipane tart with clotted cream. The carefully selected drinks list includes English white wine & fizz, & ale from Bermondsey’s Kernel microbrewery.

A Sunday Lunch
Sunday Lunch. It begain with beer. Honey Beer to be exact. We ate creamy goats curd on a bed of bright beetroots sprinkled in hazelnuts and rich pork and pistachio terrine with cornichons smeared onto slabs of sourdough. The main event was the 12 hour pork shoulder with roast potatoes, baked leeks and purple heritage carrots doused in cider gravy followed by sticky date pudding with salted caramel sauce. Another Brixton triumph. Drop by for a cocktail, local beer or cider and delicious seasonal grub. They also have a great little shop selling beautiful interior and kitchenware, cookbooks, falcon dishes, beeswax candles and textiles and cards made by local designers.
