SquareMeal Review of Brasserie Blanc Tower of London

Bronze Award

Located directly opposite the imposing Tower of London, this branch of Raymond Blanc’s user-friendly brasserie chain offers all sorts of possibilities for tourists and workers from the local insurance offices. Banquette seating and swishly laid tables offer an inviting prospect in the print-lined dining room, while an eye-catching mural marks out the staircase leading down to Little B – a separate dining area that can used for private parties. Start with a bowl of moules marinière or ‘Maman Blanc’s miscellany of salads’ before sampling steak-frites, seared hake with lemon and parsley butter or roast Barbary duck breast with spiced plum compote and gratin dauphinoise. For afters, why not share a flamed baked Alaska or some Anglo-French cheeses. Two-course set menus (from £10.95 lunch, £14 dinner), various kids’ deals and Gallic regional wines direct from the producer are further reasons to be impressed.

Food is excellent, drink selection is good and on par with everywhere else. Service can be a bit slow but very polite. Décor has been recently upgrade. Ambience, great in the evening for a sit down chat but lunch times it can be quite noisy. Good value for money. Never been served a bad meal.

The service was confused which nearly ruined the meal.

This is a typical french restaurant where I organised many dinners and dinner party and never been disappointed. The location cannot be better as it is facing the Tower of London. The food is tasteful and they have a good choice of wines. I have nothing bad to say about the service as we always feel welcomed. Good restaurant.

Great City Spot
Great place for business or client lunches, agree with other reviews that fish is cooked beautifully but can't say so for the meat, which we found a little dry. Good all round spot in the City.

Dinner
Well presented French food that always delivers. The fish is always excellent. Good service and well priced French wines, particularly claret.

Outstanding City Venue
This is an outstanding example of a City brasserie that gets the value for money side of this business so right. The food quality is excellent - outstanding soufflés and the staff are incredibly well trained without feeling like robots. I will certainly be returning soon - the food is to die for.

Great food and atmosphere. Had Cheese soufle for starter that came with extra cheese sauce! yum, then had chicken chips and gravy. great flavour and plenty of it. Then we had baked alaska for two, it was good but only have it if you have a mega sweet tooth. The waiter was very tentative and had a great personality. Wine was great to.

This was a Christmas meal for seven people recently. The general consensus was that it was a disappointing meal, particularly for such a well known branded restuarant. The service was very slow (I had to ask the waiter to come and take the orders after waiting for half an hour). The accompanying sauces (e.g. mustard) did not arrive until some time after the meal had arrived. Some of the food was very poor and not what was expected at such a high profile restuarant chain. For example, the risotto was dried out, the rice with the beef straganoff was burnt / crusty / dried out, the belly pork was bland. That said, some of the other dishes were well received, particularly the mussels and the steak. I wouldn't return to this restaurant again.
