And it’s not just seaside cliches that you can find in Whitby’s line-up of restaurants, this popular holiday spot is also home to a few fine diners. One of our favourites is The Star Inn at The Harbour by chef Andrew Hern - who owns another Michelin starred pub close by. Here you can expect top-end pub grub like a prawn cocktail with a Bloody Mary sorbet or seared scallops with pork belly. Also, just a stone’s throw away you’ll find The Black Swan at Oldstead – a Michelin starred restaurant by Tommy Banks near York. Well worth the short drive, this fine dining destination specialises in modern British food.

Back on the cobbled lanes of quaint Whitby and you’ll find all sorts of other more laidback café and restaurants to enjoy lunch or dinner at if you prefer something a little lighter. You could try one of The Willow Branch’s famous afternoon teas or a plate of fresh seafood at Quayside – a family-owned seafood cafe which has been around since the 1950s.
