Weybridge boasts a rich and varied history dating back centuries, even getting a mention in the Domesday Book of 1806 as ‘Webruge’. The striking St James Church in the centre of town, originally built in the 12th-century, is a hub for the community and still in use today. If you’ll be visiting during spring or summer, be sure to check out the meadow just a five-minute walk alongside the church footpath for a stunning scene of colourful wildflowers, butterflies and birds. Weybridge was also one of the earliest canal-based industrial towns in the country and was the first to be wholly lit by electricity in 1809. More recently, in the early 20th-century, the town was put on the map by the construction of the Brooklands Motor Racing Circuit and Aerodrome, which was the first purpose-built racing track in the world and tourists still flock here for the museum.

Locals and tourists alike can benefit from the variety of activities available in Weybridge. For example, tee off at one of the award-winning golf courses nearby or stroll through the historic Oatlands Park which boasts beautiful gardens, woodlands and a striking 19th-century mansion. The mansion was recently converted into a hotel, the ideal spot to stay if you’re after a country escape from the city. After a long day of exploring, settle in for a meal at one of the many places to eat in Weybridge. In particular, keep an eye out for the waterfront restaurants so you can enjoy a delicious dinner with a view.
