Restaurants in Newcastle

Once a powerhouse of the Industrial Revolution, this former shipbuilding city now has a flashier claim to fame – it’s considered to offer the best nightlife in the UK. The Bigg Market attracts a young drinking crowd who pack the many pubs and nightclubs, and elsewhere there’s a wealth of bars, pubs, clubs, theatres and music venues within easy reach of one another. From larger-than-life sculpture – The Angel of the North rises 20m above the A1 near Gateshead – to tours of St James’ Park, home of Newcastle United FC, the city has much to offer. Restaurants in Newcastle are an eclectic mix, ranging from Chinatown stalwarts, located mostly along Stowell Street, to Electric East’s mix of Cambodian, Thai and Vietnamese cusines, from Blackfriars, dating from the 13th century and allegedly the oldest purpose-built restaurant in the UK, to Café 21, a chic, modern brasserie in the Trinity Gardens development.
