The follow-up to The Distillery on Portobello Road is engagingly tricked out like a low-key 1970s Seville tapas joint. Sweet, switched-on Spanish staff amplify the Iberian vibe, as do tables spilling out on to buzzy Exmouth Market. At the bar, keenly priced house cocktails include Spanish Gimlet (which adds laurel and rosemary to the classic gin and lime recipe) and Isabel (cava, Dubonnet, bitters and Amontillado sherry). Various gin-tonicas (we like Portobello Road buttered gin), dessert cocktails and bebidas add to the allure, and the 95% Spanish wine list (nearly all available by the glass) combines sunny everyday sips, bold big-hitters and interest from Tenerife, Majorca and The Basque Country. Snack on boquerones, top-notch jamóns, and irresistible piquant ‘chistorra’ sausage rolls. Alternatively, in the main room, order from an expanded tapas menu: smoked duck, orange and pickled onion, for instance, or hake with tomato rice and yellow pepper purée.
