SquareMeal Review of The Pembroke Castle

A streetside beer garden with prime people-watching opportunities is The Pembroke’s trump card, drawing the young & the beautiful in their oversized sunglasses at the first hint of sunshine. Inside, the spacious high-ceilinged bar is decked out with plenty of wood. The tipples of choice tend to be glasses of Sauvignon Blanc, bottled ciders poured over ice, & jugs of Pimm’s – although you’ll also find decent draught ales such as St Austell’s Tribute & Adnams bitter. Food consists of a routine line-up of nachos, bangers & mash, & cheese sandwiches – neither the stuff to knock your socks off, nor to dent your bank balance. The biggest downfall here, though, is often the service – there are times when the staff can’t seem to muster a smile for love nor money.
