Attracting a sophisticated crowd of young professionals, this smart gastropub with rooms is a welcome reprieve from some of Clerkenwell’s livelier spots. Here, traditional interiors are blended with modern touches via dark wood walls and gilt-framed portraits, while the kitchen turns out an agreeable menu of pan-Asian fare: highlights from the small plates include crispy rolls stuffed with shreds of juicy duck dipped in hoisin sauce, and a plate of chicken gyoza, with notes of soy, garlic and ginger. From the large plates, which all come served with puffy white rice, we were impressed by juicy pork belly resting in a spicy crab bisque, and crispy chicken strips drizzled with a hot, slightly sour kimchee sauce. A warm atmosphere and friendly service are further pluses, while cocktails include a Porn Star Martini made Thai with added ginger and chilli. It’s affordable too, with all mains around the £10 mark.
