About

Plas Dinas is an award-winning five star country house hotel - the former home of Lord Snowdon, no less - located in Snowdonia in North Wales. As well as offering 10 individually-styled rooms for overnight guests, 15 acres of beautiful grounds and venue hire, the hotel also boasts an elegant restaurant, The Gunroom, which was added to the Michelin Guide in 2022. The kitchen is headed up by chef Daniel ap Geraint who looks after a monthly-changing menu based around seasonal British ingredients, particularly local Welsh ingredients. Designed in the style of a traditional country house but with accents of London glamour, the restaurant offers a laid-back yet luxurious setting to indulge in a fine dining three-course feast.

Begin your evening with a drink at the bar, complete with original wooden beams and art deco stools and seating, which bring an old-meets-new feel to the space A selection of trendy cocktails, delectable gins, spirits and wines are available to be enjoyed here in the Gunroom Bar, or in the cosy Drawing Room, and are the perfect way to begin an evening at Plas Dinas.

There are two dinner sittings available at 6pm and 8pm. The menu constantly evolves with the seasons and uses the freshest local Welsh produce available, with the a la carte menu offering a range of starters, mains and desserts, as well as an optional cheese course at the end. On top of that, each course is interspersed with hidden courses, making dinner at The Gunroom feel unique and special. Particular highlights on the menu at the time of writing include organic Snowdon lamb with Cwt Caws fetys (a feta-like Anglesey cheese), pea shoots and mint, pork loin and braised belly from nearby Rhos Isaf with saboy cabbage filled with smoked bacon, black pudding and rhubarb, and dark chocolate tart with Black Forest mousse, burnt cherry, cherry ice cream and homemade Morello cherry liquor.

Afternoon tea is also served daily in settings throughout the house and includes unlimited sandwiches, dainty sweet treats and free-flowing tea or coffee.

Remarkable Welsh Restaurant Best in North Wales

We regualry dine out and have travelled around the UK to various wonderful restaurants. This exquisite country house and in-house restaurant was remarkable. Intimate and romantic setting with fantastic flavours. The head chef was off when we visited but the second chef was in-charge and the standards were incredibly high, presentation was remarkable and the hidden courses delightful. The apple dessert was fab. I have just bought vouchers for my family to visit themseleves as a Christmas gift and have booked to return in March.
