This now-permanent pop-up opens at the weekend, when the market’s vintage hunters and street-food gatherers come out in force. Set in a vast airy hangar and dressed Caribbean style, the Village Bar is a sofa-strewn space with a stage that hosts a different free set every hour, on the hour. Given the area’s cultural heritage, you could be listening to the next Bob Marley, Neneh Cherry, Damon Albarn or Marc Bolan as you enjoy house wine or draught beers from Fuller’s, who sponsor the place. Spirits and mixers, a few cocktails, interesting bottled craft beers and Henney’s cider complete the list, while top-quality street food from Acklam’s market stalls can be eaten on the premises – think paellas, pizzas, East African dishes, Dutch pancakes, steak baguettes and pulled pork buns.
