About

Simmons’ latest bar is this jokey joint on the City’s eastern fringe. As at the equally luridly appointed original in King’s Cross and its Fitzrovia and Camden sisters, the emphasis here is on disco drinks and cheerful retro-kitsch decor. China tea services from the 1950s are employed to hold £20 cocktails for three or four to share: the likes of G&Tea and ‘Cosmo-pot-ilan’ among them. Tiki ideas include A Punch In The Head: a £45 rum and pineapple tropi-cooler for five, served in a crystal skull. On weekdays until 9pm and all day Saturday, there’s 1990s pricing on wines, lagers, fizz and two-for-£10 cocktails such as Sex With A Lad and Golden Sour. But with many recipes reliant on a single spirit base and prosaic ingredients – Disco Fizz is essentially a Tom Collins – we imagine Simmons is set to make a mint on Royal Mint Street.
